Box Truck Accident

New York Truck Accident

State police temporarily closed a portion of Route 177 in Lewis County due to a serious accident.

Officials said a truck loaded with food left the road and went down an embankment.

A passenger in the vehicle suffered serious head injuries and was being transported to a Syracuse hospital, police said.

The driver of the truck was taken to Lewis County General Hospital.

Police say it appears the driver had been traveling too fast for the road conditions.

The accident happened at approximately 12:30 p.m. about a half-mile from Route 12 in West Lowville.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation was on the scene; fuel from the truck leaked into a nearby creek.

The road was reopened shortly before 5 p.m.
