California Truck Accident

MONTEREY PARK - The driver of a box truck was injured when he veered off the side of the Pomona (60) Freeway Friday, causing major traffic delays for more than three hours, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The accident on the westbound Pomona Freeway just west of Greenwood Avenue was reported just after 5 a.m., according to CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos. He said it was not immediately clear what caused the man to drive off the side of the road and if any other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Montebello Fire Department paramedics took the driver to County-USC Medical Center, Villalobos said. His condition was not immediately known.

CHP officers shut down the two far right westbound lanes following the accident, causing major traffic delays, he said. The lanes were reopened just before 7 a.m.

At 8:17 a.m. Friday, CalTrans closed the far right lane to repair the guardrail, Villalobos said. At about 8:30 a.m., traffic was backed up about two miles to Rosemead Boulevard, he said.
