Driver Faces Charges After Crash With Fire Truck

Colorado Truck Accident

A driver who was involved in an accident with a fire truck could face charges of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

It happened in Commerce City at 104th and Brighton Friday night.

Police say a South Adams County fire truck was responding to an emergency with its lights on when an SUV hit it nearly head-on at an intersection.

The SUV took the worst of the damage but the fire truck also had to be towed.

"It's a never-ending problem and I'm just not sure what we can do about it," said Kevin Phillips, South Adams County Deputy Fire Marshal. "We try to take extra precautions when we're driving emergency vehicles to the calls where we're not only watching out for our firefighters, we're watching out for our citizens, but things like this are sometimes unavoidable."

No firefighters were injured in the crash.

The driver of the SUV was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
