Officials have shut down Interstate 75 right near U.S. 17 due to a bad crash involving a truck carrying flammable materials.

All lanes are now open.

Southbound traffic still is being routed off at Harborview Road in Charlotte Harbor.

Southbound traffic is backed up for miles into North Port, according to Charlotte County Sheriff's spokesman Bob Carpenter.

North Port officials are now directing motorists off the interstate at Sumter Boulevard to help alleviate the traffic on I-75.

To make matters worse, there's now a minor crash involving a truck and a Chrysler just before the southbound exit onto Harborview Road, as of about 10:40 a.m. No one is injured and the crash isn't blocking traffic.

Avoid the Harborview Road area and I-75 in Punta Gorda and Charlotte Harbor at this time. If you have to be in the area ... DRIVE SAFE!

The wreck that caused this entire incident involved a tanker truck carrying 9,300 gallons of liquid propane. A 19-year-old Tampa man driving a pickup ran into the side of the tanker, Carpenter said. The pickup became lodged beneath the pickup and dragged for more than 300 feet. No one was injured.
