Truck Accident Affects Rockaways Phone Service

New York Truck Accident

As many as 400 Verizon telephone customers in the Rockaways have no service because a crane-hauling truck crashed into a telephone pole, a phone company spokesman said Saturday night.

Crews are trying to fix the damage, and the company expects service to be fully restored by late Monday -- and many customers "could be back before," a Verizon spokesman said.

The truck felled lines and a junction box where the lines connect around 7 or 8 a.m. on Beach Channel Drive and Beach 43rd Street.

The affected areas are between Beach 41st Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Almeda Avenue and Beach 44th Street, said the spokesman, John Bonomo. "We put signs up so customers know what's going on," Bonomo said.
