Dump Truck Accident in Ohio on I-75

Crash Kills 2 On Interstate 75

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Lebanon Ohio State Patrol is investigating a crash that killed two people Saturday night.

The accident happened on Interstate 75 southbound near milepost 34 north of Middletown.

Troopers said a 1980 Mack dump truck , driven by Timothy Smith, 46, of Hillsboro, was traveling southbound in Interstate 75 in the left lane when it was struck from behind by a 2009 Nissan Maxima two-door driven by Nicholas J. Poe, 30, of Cross Plains, Tenn.

Poe and his passenger, Amanda E. Poe, 24, of Cross Plains, Tenn., were both pronounced dead at the scene, neither appeared to have been wearing a seatbelt.

The preliminary investigation indicates that speed is the primary cause of the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.

Troopers said no alcohol use is suspected at this time.
